Residential Life
Students are housed in university dorms. Our residential staff acts as big brothers and sisters to students, yet also provides supervision and mentoring. Living in a dorm is a great way to meet new friends, have fun, and learn how to live in a group setting. Since most students come to the program not knowing anyone, each is assigned to a dorm group to facilitate meeting other campers. Each floor has its own Residential Advisor - experienced in residential life - and a better than four to one ratio of students to staff. In addition, the Camp Director lives at the dorms along with numerous Program Directors. This system was designed to ensure student safety, the absolute best supervision, and a feeling of friendship and interaction among students and staff.
The university housekeeping staff cleans the common areas each day - you are responsible for keeping your own room clean.
Our older and younger students are housed in separate areas and each has specialized rules and supervision to meet their different needs.
Roommates are assigned according to age. Two students share a dorm room although occasionally a student will be assigned a single room. The rooms are comfortable with extra-long captain's beds with 6 drawers underneath, desks and a closet. We only honor mutual roommate requests.
The residents' lounges are a great place to meet, play ping-pong or watch a movie. Right outside the dorms are the popular basketball court and lawns for volleyball and other activities. A large part of the program occurs in and around the dorms where friends, socializing, and memories flourish.

Dining
Breakfast and lunch are served in a newly renovated cafeteria. Included each day are a wide variety of nutritious and tasty selections. At breakfast you can choose both hot and cold options ranging from cereal and fruit to eggs. Lunches also offer a variety of options: hot entrees, a salad bar, sandwiches, pizza center, fresh fruit, and unlimited beverages, desserts and more. Helpings are unlimited.
Dinners are special times at 4 Star. While some dinners are at the cafeteria, each week we vary the occasion with delicious spreads of foods prepared and served picnic style by our great local caterer. And on Thursdays, before the party, students enjoy a 4 Star tradition of dining out at popular restaurants at UVa's famous "Corner".
All meals are provided except for lunch on weekend trips.
We will notify you of our local address that may be used for mailing packages and letters to campers. Mail is picked up each day except Sunday. Campers are encouraged to bring stamps with them to camp rather than trying to purchase them at the post office. Please do not send mail to your camper to our main office as it cannot be forwarded in time.
Phones
We will notify you of our camp phone number to be used to reach us while students are at camp. There will be a staff member available to take your calls, otherwise, you may leave a message on the voice mail and we will return your call as soon as possible.
We ask that students with cell phones use them only during the camp's "phone hours" from 5-6 pm and from 9-10 pm.
Although we greatly encourage open communication between campers and our staff, it is important that you contact us immediately should your child notify you of any problems. This will give us the opportunity to correct the matter while your child is still at camp.
Parents of younger students are urged to limit their phone contacts while they are at camp. We strongly feel that telephone calls from campers to home or vice- versa can contribute to homesickness.
Laundry and Spending Money
Laundry facilities are available in the dorms for a standard charge.
Parents may deposit spending money in the form of cash or traveler's checks with the Camp Bank at check-in. Money would be needed for such extras as souvenirs, snacks, lunch on weekend trips and payment for medical attention. The Camp Bank is open on a daily basis for campers to withdraw money.
